Frequently Asked Questions

The following information does not take precedence over formal pre-post instructions given by your healthcare provider.

How many treatments does it take?
All laser hair reduction treatments take at least 6-8 sessions. Hair grows in repeating cycles, and only in the actively growing phase does the hair contain enough pigment to absorb sufficient energy to disable the hair follicle. When hair is in the dormant phase, it has little or no pigment, and it cannot absorb the laser light.
How far apart should sessions be spaced?
Performing laser hair removal treatments 4-8 weeks apart (depending on the body area being treated) will give the highest chance of treating most of the hair follicles in the area during their active phase.
What should I do to prepare for laser hair reduction treatments?
1. Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning bed, and sunless tanning products for 4 weeks prior to each treatment and the duration of treatments. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide daily. Tanned skin has extra melanin, which attracts laser energy, and can result in burning and/or other complications.

2. Do not pluck, tweeze, wax, undergo stringing or electrolysis, use depilatory creams or bleach, or any other unwanted hair treatments that remove hair from its root for at least 4 weeks prior to laser treatments. The laser is attracted to melanin, therefore hair needs to be in the follicle.

3. Shave the area to be treated 1-3 days prior to your visit

4. Avoid applying lotion, sunscreen, perfume, deodorants, or cosmetics to the skin surface before the laser treatment.
